Sorrow in the Stone

Companion to Rain Upon the Rose/The Rose and the Stone

By Joel Gray IIIPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

A stone endures all things

It is patient and strong

It weathers the storm

It bears the same rain that kisses the rose

In such manner he waits

Solid, unmoving, resolute

Waiting for something more

But see the sorrow in his eye

The brittle facade giving way

Time is cruel

Even the most stalwart stone turns to dust

A crack or a chip spells doom

Relentless rain and wind erode

A fate easily accepted should it have worth

Bearing the brunt of the elements for another

As they flourish, the stone is given purpose

But a lonely stone has naught to look forward to

Solitary, they wear away

Sorrow in the stone
