Questions in Your Silence

Will you ever tell me why?

By J. Nicholas MerchenPublished about a month ago 1 min read
Top Story - June 2024

Will you ever tell me why?

Why? What do you mean—‘why’?

Why you did it—you owe me that.

Mom, I love you…

Why’d you say that?

Because— because— I do.

Don’t lie to me! You’re trying to change the subject!

No! I want to know why!

It wasn’t you…

Then what? If you loved me, what could make you do this?

I bartered my soul for curiosity. And my body. And my brain. And my life.

…I could’ve helped you…

I could have! If you let me!

Mom! Please…

Because my life was little more than a deeply abasing conjugation of Hell!

But— was this the answer?

I love you.

I miss you.

Mom… I love you

…I know… And I love you…
