---

As the D-day was inching closer,

She realized for many things she needed closure.

Though for the new phase of life she was excited much,

She couldn't stop thinking about how she'd miss her family and other things as such.

---

She kept herself happily busy shopping for clothes, jewelry, and shoes,

All the while wondering whether after marriage too she'd have such freedom to choose.

In a few days, she would turn from a 'princess' to a 'bride',

Filled with trepidation, she was whether she'd be accepted there with the same stride.

---

She would soon have to adopt new relations and even a new name,

Wife, daughter-in-law, aunt; with being married, many changes came.

In her home, only a pampered daughter and sister she had always been.

She wondered whether so many new roles she'd be able to fit in.

---

She was leaving behind her father, mother, and brother.

She hoped and prayed her absence in their lives wouldn't bring them much bother.

Her to-be husband would be supportive she hoped,

Because she had no idea how his family was and whether with the new life she'd be able to cope.

---

Her emotions were on a roller coaster ride,

Which was a blend of sadness, shyness, and pride.

On one hand, she was happy to be his wife.

But the thought of not being 'Daddy's little girl' anymore too, she could not put aside.

---

With her family, she'd always led a life grand.

Who pampered her and took care of her every need and demand.

A new set of parents and a new family she'd now belong to.

Tables would turn as she'd become the one to meet their expectations and pull their needs through.

---

The ceremony itself and the decorations too, she was looking forward to enfold.

Their union and herself dressed as a bride she knew would be a sight to behold.

There were the mehndi, the sangeet and the baarat to all of which she looked ahead.

She would have so much to express, but most of it would be left unsaid.

Note: The above poem is written keeping in mind an Indian bride-to-be and an Indian wedding where the henna tattoo is applied on the arms and feet of the bride, there is a musical dancing ceremony called the sangeet and the groom arrives at the wedding destination via a procession called the baarat.
