Tonight I sleep wrapped in a patchwork quilt

It’s shoddily sewn together

Worn with use

And yet how I love it so

Because it was a gift from you

To show me that you care

You gave me a new patch today.

You must've thought I was cold

To put new colors over the old

To show me a new lesson of love

I’m sorry I didn’t smile when you gave me one this morning

I have so many sitting under wraps

I’m burning up now, my love

And yet you keep adding to my quilt

And making reparations to it

Beautiful shades of blue surface

Over the yellows that were starting to fade

And purple blooms over the greens that needed patching

My quilt

My collection from you

That no one sees but me

Hidden under layers of clothing and makeup

You gave me a new one tonight

A brand new addition to my patchwork quilt

I’ll sleep in it forever, I promise

Because tomorrow they’ll put me in the ground

I guess you repaired it too many times
