Pandemic ABCs

A is for ALONE

(So much time for thinking!)

And A is for ALCOHOL –

For cleaning and for drinking!

B is for BOOZE

Which was mentioned before,

And B is for BLEACH –

We have NEVER used more!

C is for “COVID CUT”

Such Horrible Hair!

It’s also for CANCELED –

Sorry, not going there!

D is for DELIVERIES

(Made with no contact!)

And D is for DISEASE

We hope not to contract.

E is for EMPLOYEES

whose work is ESSENTIAL

The jobs they perform

Are not inconsequential.

F is for FRIENDS, FLU, FAMILY, and FLASK

F’s also for FACE which now needs a MASK!

G is GRANDPARENTS we sadly can’t see

And G gets our GROCERIES by delivery!

H is for HANDS which we must wash a lot

And H is for HOME it’s the safest spot.

***

I is for INSIDE! Isolated we stay!

And I is for INTERNET for work, school, and play!

J is for JAMMIES – our “casual look”

And J is for JOURNALING – we might write a book!

K is for KIDS who have nowhere to go,

And KITCHENS, and KNOWLEDGE, and

KINDNESS we show

L is for LOCKDOWN

It’s the life that we lead

It’s also for LETHARGY, and our new

Slower speed

M is for MASK –

A most vital part!

And MANDATES, and MUSIC and

MAKING of art!

N is for NURSES who keep us alive

Let’s give them good PPE - N-95!

O!

OUTSIDE and ONLINE is where most meetups are

Until this is OVER, we’re not going far!

P is for POD filled with PEOPLE you trust

And P’s for PANDEMIC (because we need must.)

Q is for QUACKERY – much misinformation!

And Q is for QUARANTINE – stay home, no vacation!

R is for REMOTE - it’s how we must be

In order to RETURN to REALITY.

S is for SANITIZE – scrub several times each day!

And S is SOCIAL DISTANCE – stay at least six feet away!

***

T is for TP – our biggest obsession!

And TESTING and TIKTOK and TELEHEALTH sessions.

U’s for ULTRAVIOLET light used to clean spaces,

And also for UNPRECIDENTED unemployment cases.

V is for VACCINE – to keep us virus-free,

And V’s for activities done VIRTUALLY!

***

W is for WORRY and WEARING a mask,

And WORKING from home – a daunting new task!

***

X for XENOPHOBIA

When we blame other nations

For illness, restrictions & canceled vacations.

***

Y is for YELL which we all want to do

It’s been a long YEAR and it’s not even through.

Z’s for ZOOM meetings when lives are uprooted,

But could you repeat that?
