On Maimie's Mountain
Reflections on the simple things of life
On Maimie’s Mountain
Lay many treasures
Hidden from
Public view
There are dinosaur bones
Buried beneath Pirate X’s
Stealthily placed along
The sandy creek bank
The largemouth bass float
Just under the muddy surface
Of the family’s favorite
Out-of-the-way fishing hole
There is a lush green garden
Tucked safely in the Pine clearing
Family and wildlife stop to graze
On fresh sweet corn and black-eyed peas
On Maimie’s Mountain
Life moves at a slower pace
Much more peaceful than
The world beyond the dirt road
The trees here tell the stories
Of generations long past
Sitting on their screened porches
Watching the sun sink slowly behind the ridge
On Maimie’s Mountain
The road is more sand than rock
The soft dirt holds tiny footprints
That trace the path from memory
The old worn footprints
Appear to meet them, continuing life’s circle
The road winds past family homes
Built on the mountain by generations long past
It pauses beneath the wispy cedar trees
Where the stones rise, and names are carved
It’s a peaceful glen
Where fond memories are tended
On Maimie’s Mountain
The air is filled with sweet music
The music of childhood laughter
As their roots firmly take hold in this sacred ground
The rhythm of hammers building
The next generations shelter
The sweet melody of her song
As Maimie sings her little ones
And the symphony of her mountain
As it hums along
On Maimie’s mountain
Her door is always open to all who happen by
Her table is always full
For those longing for a homecooked meal
Her hands are never too busy
To wipe tears from cheeks or kiss the boo-boos
Her arms are ever outstretched
To offer a genuine embrace that fixes all life’s worries
Her wisdom, like a road map
Available for all who choose to follow her lead
On Maimie’s Mountain
It is a magical place
Where ordinary life passes
In a mysteriously wonderous way
If you have the privilege to be invited
Beyond the end of the blacktop road
You will find the humble mountain
Waiting to embrace you unconditionally
And the dirt road leading you
On a path of self-discovery
Life moves more slowly, and Love rings more true
In this hidden treasure….
