Self-sufficient

Self-reliant

Hidden behind a garden gate

Under a dome of leaves in shades

Of green, orange, red, and yellow

Cozy, secreted from view

A hideaway for the denizens

That still dances around

Under a harvest moon

Opals shine with their own fire

Cosmos proudly line walkways

As those marked

Scorpio or Libra

Thread their way about

Knocking on doors

With pink tourmaline

Door handles

Sparkling under the light

The houses beckoning with

Their windowsills lined

With potted marigolds

In their pert colors

Bowls of candy set at every door

Prepared for the trick-or-treaters

Who come out in masses

Just one night a year

Yards decorated with a witch’s eye

Cauldrons

Skeletons

Evil trolls

Each highlighted with their

Own set of flashing lights

Drawing delighted eyes

Large with wonder

The smell of apple cider

And pumpkin spice

Waft through the air

Drawing everyone out

At the center you’ll find

A gathering

Of sweater-clad folk

Ordering their hot cocoa

From a wooden kiosk

Dragon

Vampire

Pretty Pink Princess

Costumes galore

Flood the nightly galas

Black cats crossing paths

Scarecrows guarding

Haunted corn mazes

Jack-o’-lanterns, arms waving

Beckon entry,

Into the season’s carnival

Apple bobbing

Cakewalks

Dunking booths

Come one, come all

All are invited to join the fun

About the Creator

Mother Combs

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
