Nine lives and counting

Poppy's June edition prompt

By Novel AllenPublished 16 days ago 2 min read

The words rang ominously in my head:

Autopsy

Airborne

Clear

Rope

Curl

"What's with the acronym and initialism",

asked the Columbo-look-alike mysterious detective

wearing sunglasses, trying to appear cool

"No idea, the letters were carved into his chest

before we brought him in", replied the coroner

What was the cause of death, do you think?

Oh, someone used a rope to hang him

It was really a completely gruesome sight to behold

The coroner, preparing to slice the corpse wide open

and quite looking forward with glee to doing the autopsy

Jumped back in fright as the supposedly dead body

suddenly became airborne, screeching like a banshee

The next day the same body was brought back in

someone had drowned him, but when they lifted

the body onto the table. it twitched

It appeared to be still barely breathing

Grabbing the resuscitating thing-a-ma-jig

the coroner yelled, 'clear' and zapped the corpse

with enough electricity to down a horse

Again, with a yowl, the body upped and ran away

By this time, the coroner, detectives and everyone

began scratching their heads in bafflement and perplexity

They began to take some serious note of the whole situation

Monday...someone hung him

Tuesday...someone drowned him

Wednesday...threw him off a building

Thursday...locked him in a freezer

(The poor kid who found him was so traumatized,

he is prescribed therapy for his entire life)

Friday...someone pulled out his toenails

and suffocated him, poor guy

Saturday...they shot him, missing essential organs

Sunday, they tried to burn him, but

he had just collapsed outside

from the inhalation of the fumes

Twice more he was brought in

and twice more he regained consciousness,

slipped by the many police officers

standing guard by the door, and ran away

you see, by now, everyone was scratching their heads

wondering how a body could survive such an ordeal

The next day they found a for real dead body

near the home of the intended victim

He had been, hung, drowned, locked in a freezer,

his toe nails were pulled out, and he had been suffocated

He had been shot, partially burned, thrown off a building

along with two other mysterious causes of death.

They found a beautiful, but slightly almost dead

Lovely, very large Siamese cat curled up on the sofa

On the wall was written

DAMNED C.A.T. ATE TYRONE

Apparently, Tyrone had been the owner's

vicious little Chihuahua which terrorized the cat.

Ah, now we understand why C.A.T. had been burned

on the chest of the cat, oh, how it must have hurt.

They all wondered how many more lives this cat had

The new owner adopted the cat, never believing the rumors

that a cat ate the dog and killed its owner...preposterous

Until strange things started happening around the house.

First of all, I applaud you for coming up with the concept. That alone is impressive😂 Secondly, my favourite part was 'the resuscitating thing-a-ma-jig.' This was quite the story with quite the twist. Very well done😂

  • Hahahhahaahhahahaha that cat is my hero!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • Ah, Novel!! I am a confirmed cat lover and I love that the cat is in charge in this really creative story!!! Cats rule!

  • What a read! Loved the aside: 'Thursday...locked him in a freezer (The poor kid who found him was so traumatized, he is prescribed therapy for his entire life)' Very imaginative. I feel sorry for the investigative team too!
