I'm allowed to cultivate my own image
I'm allowed to cover my canvas in
black paint when I want to drown my past
I'm allowed to do fast, short strokes of red when I want more passion
and
slow, smooth lines of blue when I need that calm
I'm allowed to flick specks of gold so the world don't forget how bright I shine
And I'm allowed to wash it all away
as many times as I want
As many times as it takes
Until I feel that the world sees me
and more importantly
until I see me
because
I am allowed to cultivate my own image
