My Canada

Canada - as I see it

My Canada.

A country that stands as proudly united

With people and provinces deeply divided.

My Canada.

Where guns can’t be purchased from any old place,

Yet words are like bullets when laced with race hate.

My Canada.

A country where all are entitled to health,

But access to the world still requires slight wealth.

My Canada.

Where our kin to the south are viewed with disdain,

While children of our land lay in graves with no name.

My Canada.

Greets outcasts of the world with wide open arms

And graffities “Go Home” lest they come to great harm.

My Canada.

Its picturesque beauty falls second to none,

Its ugliness hushed and shown to no one.

My Canada.

A Tim’s on each corner, ice hockey and “sorries”

Coexist with gender and race horror stories.

My Canada.

Two sides that are true, one bad and one good,

A coin of a nation, longs to be as it should.

My Canada.

Great and flawed, a vast Maple Leaf expanse

To be better in future and at peace with its past.

Overcoming what’s been, better what’s yet to be,

A True North for all, glorious and free.

Our Canada.
