My Agreement With The Luna Goddess

To repay her kindness

I wander along the sand alone, just as the sun is setting,

Waiting for the starry night and the moon to rise,

The sound of the crashing waves taking me back to a time,

When I’d spend every night alone on the beach, in awe of the dark skies.

***

As the sun sinks over the horizon, my mood crests upon each wave,

Tears rolling down my face, in time with the water’s ebb and flow,

Not terribly sad or terribly happy, just touched by Mother Nature,

Wishing on the beautiful colours in the sky, as the sun finally gets set to go.

***

Within minutes the sky turns grey, a twinkle or two catches the final light,

The moon pokes her glorious head over the horizon, always on time,

And my face lights up in a smile, welcoming our beloved Luna goddess,

Knowing the show can now start, the stars are bright, as she continues to climb.

***

The waves are gaining height, crashing loudly,

Deafening out my worries, my concerns,

The first time I’ve felt at peace today, a welcoming relief,

Astonished at how a little earthly nature, can smother life’s torrid turns.

***

I call out a welcoming hello to the goddess of the night sky,

And I bet you can imagine my surprise as she fell into the waves,

Surfing an incoming wave crest, to land close to my feet,

Once more it’s my sanity that she effortlessly saves.

***

We sit and converse the entire night away,

As she listens to my troubles, offering a sensible solution,

Until I’m once more at the top of my game, confidence returned,

As we say our goodbyes, my load lightened with a stay of execution.

***

As she rises from the dark blue water, she looks back to ask,

“Please help me in return by battling the water’s pollution,

Save the animal life, the sea creatures and plants,

I’m not sure how but I’m sure you’ll find the perfect solution.”

***

I gave our Luna goddess my agreement,

To do my best to clean the ocean bed and shore,

To save our slowly dying planet,

And to help end the human pollution war.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
