She Has The Strength Necessary To Refuse Failure

She fought hard every time life asked it of her

She was born screaming at the shock of being propelled into the world,

Unbeknownst to her this was life’s very first challenge to overcome,

Learning in record time what it’s like to live outside the comfort of the womb,

Cold, hungry, insecure, shocked, loud, unsure, just some emotions to succumb.

***

From that day forward, life would throw the works at her,

Problem after problem, challenge after challenge, did she have what it takes,

Did she grow into her strength or forfeit her very life,

Maybe burying her head in the sand or did she cower as she wakes?

***

There was a time or two when she broke, hiding away while she rests,

Other days she would stride through the issues, as she’s honestly blessed,

Not every day was hard, she’d never always be wrong,

But she discovered early just who she was, and she’s terribly strong.

***

There’ll be no meandering along life’s pathways,

No, she’ll be propelled by a racing desire, a limitless choice,

Digging in to the depths of her heart, her warrior strength,

Learning to fake it until she makes it, giving her the wisdom to rejoice.

***

She knew she’d be showered in life’s brick walls falling around her,

But she never believed that every house she built would be violently destroyed,

Life certainly tested her to her limits, day after day,

Although she tried to skirt the edges, she found life would never let her avoid.

***

Lessons, every challenge, was a lesson she needed to learn,

As it was never about life being unkind, or horribly mean,

It was giving her the necessary tools, the education she’d later need,

To beat back the trouble she’d face as she become her own Queen.

***

The challenges allowed her to gain great wisdom,

Just one trait she packed within her arsenal, her tool kit,

Each lesson more precious than the one before it,

And as much as she hated the fight, it was necessary, she’d later admit.

***

So far she’s graced this earth for numerous years,

Overcoming everything thrown her way, every horrid tale,

Until she became the reality of herself, the best of her yet,

Because she fought every fight, refusing to fail.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
