MOTHER'S SENSES
Remembering Mom
Remembering,
the smell and the scent of Evening In Paris that was on top of the dresser in a cobalt blue bottle.
Remembering,
a cool hand's touch on a hot forehead knowing all would soon be better.
Remembering,
arriving home from school, there were fresh baked bread and cinnamon rolls. The snack and the taste of butter on warm bread were comforting.
Remembering,
we see the dark storm clouds rolling and moving our way retrieving laundry from the clothesline and while out of breath, bringing in clothes.
Remembering,
straining to hear us, ears impaired praying that hearing would be restored.
Remembering mom.
Writer's notes: In honor of Mother's Day, May 14th, 2023, wish that I could give this poem to my mom. In December 2015, she went to heaven.
This poem is submitted to the Sensational Challenge. "The Prompt
Write a poem inspired by the five senses.
The five senses - sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell - are not only the key ways in which we interact with the world around us, but also the key ingredients to crafting a sensory poem that can transport the reader to another place and time.
Through a sensory poem, a poet can evoke emotions, memories, and experiences by using descriptive and emotive language that engages the reader's senses. A sunset can be described through the use of vivid colors and striking imagery to capture the reader's sense of sight. The aroma of freshly baked bread can be depicted through the use of sensory language to activate the reader's sense of smell. A cool breeze can be described through language that evokes the reader's sense of touch."
Thank you for reading. You are always appreciated!
