But in a rush they painted us white
So they could stop the fight
So we can join their campaign
To make the world more right
The insidiousness of hate
Openly hidden
Sometimes developed from race
But religion will do too
If they want to rebrand you
To help build their empire from Tel Aviv to Bangalore
An empire to envelop the world
In hatred for the other
Built on division
Your independence was not an act of kindness
But a calculated decision
To keep the world in division
A distraction
To keep you from fighting them

I want to grow
I want to grow and I’m going to grow. I’m not going to be this version of myself anymore and you won’t know who I become. You won’t talk to her, or be by her side as she goes through life— you won’t know her. Her heart won’t even remember the small moments that’ve clung to it for so long.
