Upon a hillock, behind my childhood home,
A man with moonlight in his eyes did roam.
He sat upon a bench, his gaze fixed far,
Watching ships traverse the night like shooting stars.
In rooms like cabins on a great sea liner,
I grew up dreaming of commanding one finer.
With double-breasted coat and anchor on my hat,
I'd steer through waves and winds, with skill and tact.
The man, spoke of long white ships at sea,
Sailing through nights of salt and mystery.
When I asked why moonlight shone in his eyes,
He simply said, "To watch ships 'neath starry skies."
And so we sat in silence, side by side,
Gazing at the horizon, open wide.
Moonlight reflecting in our eyes like seas,
As ships sailed on, carried by gentle breeze.
