Mask
There you sit waiting
for your curtain call
when it’s time
you slip on your mask
go out on stage
and play your part
At the end you take a bow
and disappear
behind the curtains
to remove the mask
you’ve just fooled the crowd with
No one suspects it’s all an act
it’s simply routine and that’s a fact
Everyday
before you walk out your door
you put on this mask
a mask of deception
you wear all day
It’s like a wall you build
one brick at a time
Only after the doors
are locked behind you
can you remove this mask
Only then can that wall come down
safe and sound
You can’t go on this way,
for you know you are living a lie
knowing you can never be you
makes you want to break down and die
Day after day you find a way
to crack a smile
but only you know
that behind the mask
you are crying inside
a cry so deep you know
you will never be heard
Solid as a rock
you always seem
but only you know
who you should have become
isn’t who you became
You became something
you’re not
A mold of perfection
you no longer can live by
It’s time to make a change
no more pretending to be
someone or something
you’re no
