Written in a Bar

“What a concept

Laughing with people you

Don’t know

Only because they

Might pay your

Bills pay for your

Time away from

Home so you can have

A home

What a concept

‘Have a good night’

As in just tonight,

Make it good

But most won’t

They’ll go on with

Their anger & struggles

And laugh with

People they don’t know

Only because they

Might make them

Feel less lonely,

What a concept

Maybe we could

Laugh with people we

Don’t know for the

Sake of laughing

And only that

Conversations running

A little longer

Than the average

Weather talk &

Disappointment

So you make the most

Of the time you have

Only because why

Not and also maybe

You enjoy it more

Than you thought you

Would

So what can we take

From one-off convos

With strangers? What

Do you leave with?

Sometimes it’s better to leave with less than

You brought

So enjoy it that way

Finger stained glass walls

One broken lightbulb

On a string

Crooked smiles

Broken teeth

Smelly feet

& a stool that leans

A little to the left

Enjoy it that way

Or get carried with

The weight of fixing

The wrong things

Drinks a little sour

Resting a little too long

Bones ache after a song

That you used to play

With her, with them

But enjoy it that way

Forget for a minute

Be selfish

Enjoy it that way”
