Inspired.

I feel so very inspired by my recent swim in the velvety ocean of Poetry here on Vocal that I simply must bring more attention to them. These are the poems that aren’t just great (for there are so very many of those on here). No.

These poems are extra.

These poems awaken the electricity in your veins. They give your body heat and chills. They revive you into remembering why we exist. They are soul alchemy.

They are the poems that made me curse Vocal for not giving us a ‘save’ button. I didn’t even know I wanted a save button until I read these poems. I found myself copying and pasting the first two on this list into my phone notes incase they ever disappeared and I couldn’t recreate the feeling they gave me.

They made me desire again.

These are the poems that feel like favourite movies. They gift you a level of comfort and warmth that you just want to repeat. And repeat. They are more than art in their own right, they are magical gifts to humanity.

If I was to throw an event in their honour? It would be an oh so grand Gatsby style event. Opulent and lush. Deserving of only the finest in everything. We would be in ball gowns and black tie applauding each one being read. Ladies would be fanning themselves fervently to prevent fainting. Corsets would need to be loosened. Even the sternest of men would be melting before our very eyes!

Allow me to bring to the stage the first of such magical wonders;

Mysterious Myths of Moisture Exchange by The Dani Writer

It genuinely hurts me that only 7 people have liked this at the time of my copying this link.

Because this poem. Wow. Simply wow.

This poem gave me off the chart feels. We are talking like, full body orgasm feels. I didn’t even know poetry could do this to a person until I read it. And I read it twice. Because I wanted to repeat that intense high it gave me the first time. And it is the first poem I ever saved in my phone notes because I felt the strongest need to ensure I could access it again. This is essentially poetry heroin.

Echoes of our Lust by Jazzy Gonclaves

I am starting with the big guns. Jazzy is already a favourite of mine with her truly emotive poetry. This one is sultry, sexy. It reignites that fire inside us that we should never allow to burn out. This is one of her unseen poems. She has attained Top Story for others that are also incredibly worthy of being on this list, but I am choosing to honour only unseen works for this article.

Starry Serenade by Errol Shakespeare

Errol’s poem feels delicate and ethereal. He transports us into the magical in such a soft way. You feel as if you are being slowly wrapped in a cosy blanket in front of a hot fireplace after being out in the cold for hours. Thank you for bringing us each to the warmth Errol. I have subscribed to Errol and intend to read his other works soon. I am already trusting him after this first discovery for it was so very beautiful. You have my attention!

Dopamine by Gina C.

I found it hard to get into the rhythm of this poem on first read, but the lyrics are so clever that I gave it a second go. And I’m so glad I did! I could barely continue reading for the massive smile that was across my face by the third verse. This was so playful, skilfully written and such a joyful piece to read! Gina has a lot of poetry on her page and is a creator I am excited to read more from. Her name is on my rainy day list and will be surely deserving of a cup of hot cacao to read with.

When We First Touched by Heather Hubbler

This poem beautifully captures how powerful vulnerability and emotional intimacy is between two people. The contrast between the characters' perceptions of themselves and each other adds depth to the narrative. It’s sensual and it evokes all the good chemicals when read aloud. There is a depth to this that I really felt. Heather is a master of this style of poetry and it has been a true joy to discover her work.

In Love’s Embrace by Maestro Varial

I couldn’t believe I am the first and only to read this. How very privileged I am! This is simply stunning. It pours like chocolate and is equally as delicious. Silky and sleek. I loved reading this out loud. The sound of it created incredible feels and I’m very grateful to the creator. Maestro has been added to my rainy day list and I look forward to diving into the 29 other poems on their page very soon!

Summer Love by Babs Iverson

This is a sweet and beautiful poem by a truly wonderful woman. This was not a poem that exactly fit the criteria that I intended for this article. There is a note of sadness to it and the feels are not electric or about desire. It is far more of a warm hug to get you through a hard day. However, Babs deserves a shoutout. Babs Iverson is a Vocal Creator who is always found in the comments section cheering on other creators with her kind words and positive energy. She feels like a longtime friend who you want to share a pot of tea with and have a good chat to. Thank you for being such a wonderful soul here on Vocal! You make each of our day’s that little bit brighter and that is why I had to include you and your wonderful poem on this list.

——————————————————-

With 12,390 pages and counting holding 12 poems each, there is a lot here! If there are poems from incredible Vocal Creators that you have found and feel deserve being on this list please comment below with the links.

I had to remove three of the Poems I had selected for this list because after reading Ashley Lima’s excellent article How to Spot AI and generating poems myself with Chat GPT to see the style it primarily uses, I grew suspicious. Chat LOVES to use the word Celestial. And that was in the title of one of these AI prompter’s poems. Using copyleaks.com showed me it was believed to be 💯 AI. Disappointing. The ‘creator’ has now put on their homepage that they use AI to generate poems but they do not state this on their actual poems. The others haven’t and continue to plagiarise. Having to check poems for authenticity is something Vocal should be doing, not us. I hope this is just an adjustment phase and that they are indeed working on a longterm solution. There is so much spam and not advertising across here now that it’s becoming harder to find real creators.

On another note, I want to offer credit to Creator Paul Stewart who helped to inspire this article with his brilliant series Vocal Deep Cuts which showcases hidden gems across all communities here on Vocal. Please do check him out also.

And just for fun, to close this Poetry Appreciation Ceremony, I invoked the powers of ChatGPT and its poetry generating abilities.

I copied the introduction I wrote and asked it to write a poem according to my introduction brief.

This is it;

.

In a world of words, where poems reside,

Like favorite movies, they take us on a ride.

With comfort and warmth, we're drawn in deep,

Repeating their magic, forever we'll keep.

.

An event to honour them, a grand affair,

Gatsby style, opulent and rare.

In ball gowns and black tie, we'll gather near,

To celebrate these gifts we hold dear.

.

Each poem, a masterpiece, a gift to mankind,

More than art, a treasure we'll forever find.

Applause will echo, as verses unfold,

Fanning ourselves, emotions untold.

.

Corsets may loosen, hearts skip a beat,

Even the sternest men will feel the heat.

For in this gathering, a connection we'll share,

As poetry's magic fills the air.

.

So let's raise a toast, to words that inspire,

To poems that kindle our deepest desire.

In this grand celebration, we'll dance and sway,

Forever grateful for the poets' display.

Oh, thank you so much for the shout-out, Kayleigh! 🥹❤️ I've been on a bit of a scattered break from Vocal and I'm so sorry I'm just seeing this. I really appreciate you taking the time to visit my page! This was one of the first poems I wrote for Vocal and I kinda published it and forgot about it 😅 I appreciate your kinds words so, so much! This is a really lovely series you're doing and I will definitely need to read these poems as I'm catching up with everything in Vocal-land! 🤗❤️ Congrats on Top Story! 🤗❤️

Thanks for highlighting these. I'm going to check some of these out. And AI - I mean, it doesn't write bad poems, does it? Don't beat yourself up. It's a new thing for us all.

Looking forward to checking these out. Congrats on the TS.

OMG, for echoes of our lust! Thank you so much! It is truly one of my top! Funny story: that canvas was actually at a Dallas Art Exhibit I went to, so that is my pic. Art is so inspirational, and I remember seeing the strokes on the canvas, almost looking like the guy used his hands to paint it and his finger to write the words; so evocative. Thank you for this list, excited to see the others!

Well done on Top Story for this!

Good job curating this list Kayleigh - lot of familiar names on here yet some of these works are unfamiliar. That's what's so great about lifting others up. Congratulations on your Top Story!

Thanks for putting together a list of such great poems. Also, I really liked the introduction! It was captivating and inspired me to maybe change the introduciton to my series haha.

  • I've already read all these poems except the one by Maestro Varial. I'm so grateful that Ashley wrote on how to spot AI generated poems! There seems to be so many of them!

  • Babs Iverson10 months ago

Kayleigh, first, thank you so very much for the shout-out and compliments. Your Lust For Words is fabulous!!! Second, your sharing poems that need a read or a second read is to be commended. Last but not least, your poem is superb, and loved it!!!

  • I feel soooo stupid right now. In Love’s Embrace is AI generated. I should have checked. It’s only as I reread this list that I realised there was something suspicious about it.

How wonderful that you recognized these love poems. There were a couple that I really liked and wouldn't have known about if you didn't take the time to share them. Thank you!
