Luck, be a Lady
"ASK ME IN DECEMBER" (#2 of Babs' unofficial romp)
Ling pretended that the snowflakes were apple blossoms
As she entwined cherry blossoms betwixt the strands
Of her perfectly coiffed, gloriously voluminous
Crimped and croissant-ed hair.
Her Taka-ashida geta wooden sandals chafed her feet
Yet were suited perfectly for the December weather
Exactly what she needed for Keeping her patchworked
Lovely hand-stitched kimono
Looking snazzy, prim and ladylike
Ling was ever so proud of this Kimono
After all, she had made it all by herself
Spending days working-in the apple and cherry
Blossoms, among the many lovely floral patterns
She pretended that the snowflakes along the
Sides of the road
Were, sunflowers, roses and forget-me-nots
Her glorious smile radiated happiness
Masking the butterflies in her quivering breast
Ling did not really need an umbrella
But if you looked close enough...closer...closer
You could see her fingers tightly gripping
A prop to still her beating heart
Hanging on to the umbrella for dear life
She looked forward keenly
To meeting her love in December
Long has he been gone to war
Oh, why must there be war, she thought
As her ravishing smile wavered a tiny bit
A month ago he had sent her a message
"Meet me in December, at our secret place"!
It was a cryptic message, written in haste
He forgot to say when
So she went every day at 4pm
And waited until 6
Two hours where they first met
And spent the happiest two hours many times after
Twenty days had passed as she kept smiling
People waved as she passed, smiling their good luck
"Will he ask her in December", they whispered
Please, she breathed to the sky
Let him be there today to,
"Ask me in December".
On the 21st of December at 4pm, there he stood
His uniform crisp, his hair turned a little grey
He was only thirty-one
What tragedy and pain had done this to him
She wrapped him in her arms
He hugged her tight
They cried and cried, each vowing
To make up for lost time
Together at last........
They both now asked each other
In that happy December warming glow
And every December ever after.....

This is beautiful, and so are the images. So happy they got to be together again!
Well-wrought! The notion of the man returning from war to his beloved is a lofty one which seems to have gone by the wayside in our modern society. I'd like to see the war stop but a return to that level of loyalty and faithfulness in relationships!
What a beautiful and very human depiction of love and life. This was amazing!
Awww, this was so sweet, touching and emotional! Loved this entry so much!
Fabulous love poem!!! Loved it!!!💕❤️❤️
Sad, beautiful, and uplifting at the same time. “Why there must be wars”? Indeed.
A wonderful love poem!
