Love in the Dust

a poem for former lovers

Let me not be too emotional

That I may not be too sensational

Far then was love that existed

Though we had it twisted

Heart tormented by feeble fear

Shattered by sun

And beaten by rain

It is now drained by invisible erosion

Heaven and earth that I had not was what I promised you

The love that never existed in your confines was your skeleton of promise to me

But we never could give to each other what we never had

Arrest my heart

I shall conjure your spirit

Confiscate my senses

And I shall be a canker warm of memories to you

By the twilights of the summer

We had our lips doing what hands should do

At the gentleness of our soul, we could see ourselves doing all we've always condemned others for doing

In our little spaces, we could see the sun gently spying at us with its florescent rays through all tiny spaces of our window

Maybe that was God looking at us

I kissed your heart always with loving ice of cake

And you kissed my eyes with your lips crusted with crimson pepper

If I may erase my memories and never remember the past anymore

Let me do it because of you

The love was such a glooming glory

My care was a scare

Making you the star of my heart was a scar on my face

Caring for you was more like scaring you

But we never knew that "LISTEN" is the wrong spelling of "SILENT"

At a tranquil cold night, we thought we would say "You'll never walk alone"

But all our mouth was forced to say was "It's time to wander alone"

Oh! Dear old lover,

But I had my house built in your heart

Where then will I live as I go?

So we finally said goodbye?

That was such a feeling of sweet sorrow.
