Lit Cigarettes

an original poem

Lit Cigarettes

The traces of cigarette smoke dancing through the air

Like two lovers entwined in a passionate embrace

They weren’t all bad days, most were good

But that’s not the story she told as I watched her lit cigarette

She left one burning in the ashtray and lit another

No longer hearing what she is saying

I am captivated by the smoke and how it entwines and parts

Learning more about life through the dance of the smoke

Than through the words she spoke
