seeing the yearning on his face
not understanding why? Grandpa why?
Running on the field
watching the old man, watching
seeing the pride on his brow
not understanding why? Dad why?
Standing in the delivery suite, proud
watching the infant, watching
seeing the wonder in his face
not understanding why? Now why?
Standing on the side line
watching the young boy, watching
remembering the thrill of the game
Understanding why? Son why?
Sitting on the shaded porch
watching the young men, watching
yearning to re-join the game
understanding why? Grand son why?
Sitting by the mason‘s stone
watching no longer, watching
the sacrifices acknowledged now
understanding why? Now why.
