Letters to Judd

letter ten

By Maj ForbesPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

dear god,

i swear i wanna change

but these memories are getting to me

thinking about all the times we walked home

together side by side, step by side.

every time i drive past my old homes,

i think of you and all that encompasses who you were

i get depressed every time i think about

how unfair life can be to the human race

grief plagues my life. i lost another loved one

you were a loved one. i can’t believe i have to say it

in the past tense, because the past tends to be painful for me.

i never thought i’d turn back to poetry to heal

but the doctor says i need a better coping mechanism

instead of self-harming. but what else takes the pain away

better than inflicting pain back onto oneself?
