The Pine Tree written by Lesya Ukrainka

The pine-tree said to the spring breeze

The ever-green pine

There I went and listened to everything

Everything she said.

Oh, she didn’t sing ‘the green din’

The ever-clouded pine

No, not the ‘green din’

A heavy winter thought was heard through all the noise.

On a winter morning, the oak-tree was silent

As though stricken with sorrow

The evergreen tree only whispered

To the dense high canopy

There I went and listened to everything

To everything she said

It is not a merry thought.

That was heard in the noise of the ‘green din’.
