Leaf upon the lake

Whence did you come?

Casting contrasting colors

Cradled in the sun

You once brought life

To a tree still living

Now you're dead

And yet still giving

A vision of serenity

Existence worry free

Leaf upon the lake, how can you

Draw envy from me?

The waves push you

Without resistance

You float in a

Carefree existence

Crumbling in the hands of time

And yet you find the chance to shine

A blemish? No.

A mark of beauty

Finished with your life-long duty

Now in death you give to me

A vision of serenity

Leaf upon the lake

Whence did you appear?

And why do I now

Hold you dear?
