Avarice does not grow alone, but
Blooms in swathes like scarlet rashes
Clothing the corpus in itching, weeping sores.
Drenched in soothing dopamine, we search,
Eating ourselves daily, satiety a perpetual impulse,
Feasting while we fast, never knowing why
Gratitude in journals and on screens still leaves us
Hungry. Open mawed and wide eyed,
Id and ego are in cahoots,
Jostling morality into dark corners,
Kneading her into new shapes
Learning nothing of happiness, and everything of relief.
Moribund, do we come too late?
Neonates once more, we thirst for
Oxytocin, as we recognise a different need.
Poultice the pock striped skin,
Quiet the mewing,
Restive soul, with gentle hands,
Soothing gentle hearts wanting only
To be loved.
Use it then, this day, this body, this world,
Vacate it unimpeded by
Wanting that which bleeds all to desolate,
Xeric waste. Look up from the
Yoke as we plough and seed and harvest the
Zeitgeist, and find instead the vast open sky.

Amazing writing. I really enjoyed it and am in genuine awe.
Quietly powerful stuff. Love this line “ Gratitude in journals and on screens still leaves us Hungry”. Very thought-provoking piece that makes us question how we can find our happiness.
a wonderful piece of writing.
Wow, I just love your use of language in this. I may or may not have learned a new word or two, lol. Also, I loved your message behind this poem. Beautifully done. 💗
Lovely!!! Fantastically written!!@ Love your inspirational poem!!!💕♥️♥️
So many works sounding the drums for the trend this world is following right now. Such a lovely poem for such woeful worries. Beautifully written.
This is great! I love how many unique words you used for the starting letters.
Can't believe I haven't used Zeitgeist yet - it's one of my all-time favourites 😁
Omggg, I learned soooo many new words! (Moribund, neonate, poultice, zeitgeist). Your Abecedarian was extremely profound and powerful! I loved it!
Quiet the mewing! So many excellent lines in this.
Stunning work. That's all this slightly older than i was yesterday rambling amateur has to say. Well bloody done, Ms Moore!
This feels like a cry to humanity. Like, Open you eyes and and "find instead the vast open sky." The language is impeccable. My favourite lines: "Eating ourselves daily, satiety a perpetual impulse, Feasting while we fast, never knowing why Gratitude in journals and on screens still leaves us Hungry." Excellent entry.
'Jostling morality into dark corners, Kneading her into new shapes Learning nothing of happiness, and everything of relief.' This is a deep think and you made me work for it. Thanks? Wonderful
Written/Spoken as one who knows to another who longs.

Great work, wonderful poem
Wow! What a powerful poem! ‘Avarice does not grow alone, but grows in swathes like scarlet rashes clothing the corpus in itching, weeping sores.’ You wield poetic language with both incredible power and striking imagery. This is another wonderful poem, Hannah.
This is a great achievement. Even with neurotransmitters! Well done.
