Where am I going?

Why?

.

Soft, wide feet tamp down the tall weeds of the understory,

Press into the mud to be revelled at later

By small, mobile eyes and nervous thumbs.

Thump, thump.

Thump, thump.

The pattern of her feet.

Badum, badum.

Badum, badum.

The easy beat of a relaxed heart.

.

To water.

To cool, crisp drinks from my favorite river.

.

Swishing through the understory,

Gently shouldering aside broad-leafed plants

And snapping already bent twigs from the last storm.

It rains, it rains, it pours.

Across the spikes on her back,

The leathery skin on her side,

The club on her tail.

And she opens her beaked mouth in a smile.

She likes the rain.

.

Cool, cool, cool water.

River water, twinkling water.

.

The forest gave way to a fat path of clear water.

Thump, thump, thump, thump,

Running to the river's edge.

Gurgling water.

Buzzing bugs.

Crowns of leaves above growing shy,

Pulling away from each other and exposing

A river of stars in the sky above.

Down by her feet.

.

Water bright with the sky lights.

They dance.

.

Big eyes fixed in her skull

Tilt with her flat, armored head

And her mouth opens again

In awe at the river above.

Quickened heart,

Teary eyes,

A heavy thump as she takes her spot

On the edge of the riverbed

To stargaze.

.

I like the bright twinkle against the dark.

I like the White Eye best of all.

.

The moon, full and fat and white,

Glints across her spike,

Shimmers in her eye,

Glows in her soul.

It is cold and far but there is something

Eternal

About it that hums a lullaby in her heart.

It watches, it sees, it holds memories

In its cartridge of white.

.

Goodnight, bright light.

Keep me in your mind and in your sight.

A wonder stroll by the river at night, starlight's vision dancing in the water, lucky dino. Great poem.

This was a cacophonous stream of consciousness experience like no other! Outstanding work, Silver! You absolutely brought this dinosaur to life in such an endearing way.

  • Your poem took me on a mesmerizing journey through time, weaving a tapestry of vivid imagery and lyrical language that transported me to a world long gone yet vividly alive in our collective imagination. The way you evoke the majesty and mystery of the Jurassic era is nothing short of breathtaking, inviting readers to wander through prehistoric landscapes teeming with life and wonder. What struck me most about "Jurassic Dreams" is your ability to infuse the ancient past with a sense of immediacy and relevance. Through your words, the dinosaurs and other creatures of that bygone era spring to life with a vibrancy that is both awe-inspiring and humbling, reminding us of the vastness and beauty of the natural world. Furthermore, your poem serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the impermanence of all things. As we contemplate the ancient ruins and fossils left behind by those who came before us, we are reminded of our own place in the grand tapestry of time, and the fleeting nature of our existence in the vast expanse of eternity.
