It's Only a Dream

I am hopeful, but this is the harsh reality

I dream of a world where all lives really mattered

And where the hateful and vengeful would stop killing

Where peace would flow and together we lived in harmony

But unfortunately it's only a dream

If all lives really mattered black normalcy would not be a threat

And rather than slander people would feel sympathy and empathy

Unfortunately it's only a dream

When Trayvon is seen as the dark raven

And Ahmaud was slain and chased off into eternity

Unfortunately it's only a dream

When a 12 year old boy is shot for having a toy gun

Because being black is a crime unto humanity

A contortion of evil

Being black means you are the problem

Being black means getting told to get over your black trauma

Being black means you question the existence of karma

Unfortunately it's only a dream

Because being black means you can't walk in slack clothing without being a threat

I can't exercise my right to bear arms and not be seen as an animal who will attack

And getting stopped by the police means I am afraid that I might die that day

When the minority is the majority killed by the police

Unfortunately it's only a dream

When as a justification for the death of the multitude of black lives is the negative connotation society has implied

Blacks deserved to be killed because of there thuggish ways and lifestyles

The booming music

It’s the assuming

Unfortunately it's only a dream

When the system has been rigged against you

And working ten times harder doesn't seem to barter

Unfortunately it's only a dream

When the land of the free and the home of the brave is a lie

Freedom no longer exists when everyday is lived in fear that you might be shot dead for the color of your skin

Unfortunately it's only a dream

When the human race has been divided by skin

And we have become desensitized to the fact we all bleed red

Unfortunately it's only a dream

When rather than cry and feel the pain of your fellow human

They condemn, defend, and contend

and blacks kill blacks all the time so what's the difference

Unfortunately it's only a dream

Because there's a lack of empathy
