It’s All About The Memories

Make them count

Bittersweet memories, precious hellos and heartbreaking goodbyes,

Every minute tells some such tales,

That’ll you’ll look back on someday in the future,

Will you look at these minutes as successes or painful fails?

***

Looking back at each lesson learned,

Every decision made,

The laughter, the tears, the happiness, the peace, the adventure,

Every memory ingrained with the minutes you paid.

***

Live the now as if it was your last,

Make the memories count in such a way,

That looking back overshadows the previous regrets,

As you wander the memories you now lay.

***

Love the minutes, the hours, the days that are yours,

Spend not on material pieces but on those you enjoy,

Walk away from heartache and run into open arms,

Build upon love and not allow destruction to destroy.

***

Remember the smiles, the pleasant surprises,

Let them overshadow the goodbyes and crippling losses,

Dance to the music, eat the damn cake,

And sail the rainbows holding on to the love of those that crosses.

***

Make precious memories for your golden years,

Choose happiness over sorrow,

Say yes to life,

And live for today and not for tomorrow.

***

Take the day off work to spend with the elderly,

Listen to their stories, live in their past,

Let your inner child rejoice with the babes in arms,

Allow the joy to forever last.

***

Make family a priority,

Make memories before they too are gone,

Because it’s all about the memories,

Rather than the sorrow that we tend to dwell on.

***

Memories, precious memories,

Of today and yesteryear,

Of lifetimes lived and loved,

And remembered with a bittersweet tear.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
