Is My Name Persephone?

Picking flowers in the rain,

I seek comfort in your blaze -

the story seemed a fairytale,

but was the death of me.

***

In my hands, the flowers wilt -

petals falling to the ground

mark my blackened trail of tears,

the loneliness I had found.

***

Below the surface, in the dark,

I wore a crooked crown -

heavy with the thorns that stab,

you’ll find no rainbows here.

***

But with the solstice shining light,

bitter winds turn gentle in the sky;

your wispy words now float away -

do you still wonder why?

Thank you for reading!

Beautifully written! Love this. I especially like the change and rebirth verses; the way it changes, it lifts, it's great.

  • Magnificently capturing the essence, tragedy, death & rebirth of Persephone.

Ooh I like it! A nice nod to the darker suggestions of the myth of Persephone. Though the romantic in me likes to think her and hades are in love.

A very intense look into selfhood and the identity of a story that is hard to claim, but must be claimed. Very good! Congratulations on top story👌

I suck at recognizing mythologies, so I'm not positive what ideas were mixed, but I liked the imagery. It was beautifully written :)
