no warning

that once one has

strapped oneself to viscera

tasted icterine

smelled ultramarine

the thing is irreversible

no warning

that you would offer yourself

piecemeal

(the choicest pieces first)

only to lower your gaze

when embarrassed by the sight

of my voracity

no warning

of the consequence of surrender

the cruelty of consent

the depreciation of élan

or that in thousands of twilights to follow

i would be loath

to consider anything

save for the sensation of you

no warning

that once one has

straddled fever

heard feldgrau

touched vermilion

there is no reinstatement

the condition

(it would seem)

is irreversible
