Life, a rushing river, no mercy to its pace,

And once-upon, a spec on shore, can only ever fade

Until the day we stretch for, cannot come close to reach,

The things we meant for keeping, left careless on the beach.

There's ones who will forever be so dearly, truly loved,

Although we don't now know them, only know the mem'ries of.

It shows there in a moment, when we turn our mind to see,

And see these are but re-run bits of friend who used to be.

And yes, they are still precious, yes, there's joy upon our face.

We'll laugh at all the stories of the time back in the place.

But these are not those stories, and this is not that home,

For as we live we all most grow, outgrow, and be outgrown.

And some, we grow together, in this river, carried on,

We sail along in separate rafts, in currents equal strong.

But most, we will lose site of; we'll go on with our lives.

Met again, we'll laugh as friends, but see strangers in those eyes.
