Liquor may be quicker but the herbals
Temper me better.
Rossi wine is fine except marijuana
Keeps me in line.
I can deal with being paranoid because
Cannabinoids give me an appetite.
It's been over a month since I've inhaled
A good rip of that hybrid pine.
Seeking decent employment means
No more red eyes
But damn it would be nice if
I could get high.
I'd like to take a trip to the clinic
For a jar to relax my mind.
I can stay sober or get drunk
But I'd rather puff on skunk.
I keep my patience knowing
That day will come where I
Can light it up and feel
My heart thump.

The Block Mayor
Like every warm day, Terrence is finishing this day on his L-shaped porch, sipping whisky from a dented flask. Cars pass by slowly, and he watches young women pushing babies in strollers; he hears the neighbors’ arguments and knows which have a regular income and those who are unemployed. Terrence is the self-appointed block mayor, laying judgment on his fellow folk.
