I'll Love You Longer Than Forever

A poem about love and growing up

We were lovers once.

Clinging to the seal we created in saying "I'll love you longer than forever".

You changed my life. For the better?

I don't know.

But because of you, I tasted the sun on my lips.

And because of you, I finally touched the stars.

Thank you.

For giving me hope, holding my hand, accepting my scars.

You might not be around to wipe the tears from my cheeks,

or move my stubborn hair behind my ears -

But it was you who brought me home.

We were lovers once. Lovers who never made it to forever.

I want you to know that it wasn't a coincidence.

Don't break your heart or shed a tear. I'm okay.

Actually.

I'm more than okay,

because I'm finally dancing on my own again.
