When Love Became Pain

Love and heartbreak are two puzzle pieces that always seem to fit. I wrote this in a setting of tears and confusion, with endless questions and regret, As a reader, you may interpret this piece however you'd like.

Time remains frozen.

Tall grass stands on open, dandelion fields.

Wind blowing my hair

back and forth

back and forth.

Dead leaves lay at the soles of my feet.

My chest burns as I hold my heart in my hands.

I fell in love even before I knew you.

Coffee mugs and grease stains,

old diners became a second home to you.

Time shifts forward.

My heart aches for your presence.

As I stand on these dead, frozen leaves,

I remember the love of your

memory, clearly.

You were needed elsewhere I suppose.

But I’m selfish

it seems.

Time stands still.

Wind blows my hair back and forth.

And you're

just

gone.
