I Know I Shouldn’t Feel Guilty

A Poem

It’s because I didn’t know,

It’s because I didn’t see,

That you say you don’t blame me,

That you say I should be free…

Free from this guilt in me,

Free from this pain…

But why must I not suffer

Just because I didn’t know?

Why must I feel I could let go

Of that dreadful day,

That replays,

Over and over again in my head?

Why must I find peace

When all that you find is pain?

Why must I forget

When there are things I do regret?

I know I shouldn’t feel guilty…

But must I feel holy?

Must I just escape and flee

Just because I didn’t know?
