I don't know of the word joy, humans keep seeing
People let roots go deep, I never know why
Those will tear you up inside, leaving scars that don't show
We are divided, so innocents die, sadly people already know
Mankind's already at deaths door, it just needs another blow
Humanity's disregarded, with no intervention ensuing
No one knows the thoughts of society, that never stop brewing
Free will is given just by heavens choosing
Then gets judged along the way by what people start doing
The heart turns wicked in mysterious ways
It just takes a crippling loss that's too great

To Give Your Last Twenty
He walks oddly, shuffling and nearly tripping down the hallway toward his apartment door. I slow my pace, allowing my neighbor— a stuffy ex-marine with one missing tooth and a strong odor of liquor and two weeks' worth of unwashed stench always accompanying him—to reach his door. I crinkle my nose, nearly gagging as he dawdles ahead.
