It says “For Sale” on our home.
Which means, for, as long as it takes,
(“Country houses are snapped up nowadays”)
We’ll be inviting prospective buyers in
To view our little slice of England.
With a view to making it theirs.
To criticize and reject its flaws.
To us, each pencil mark or dented floorboard is a memory
Of fledgling child
Expressing their individuality through frustration.
Boredom
Or whatever.
To the hoard,
It’s an error or mistake,
A reason to reject or bargain.
We’ll leave that all behind
To be painted over, hidden, or ignored.
Home 2.0 is out there, somewhere.
Flawless, sterile, other,
Until we stamp it with our muddy prints
And make it truly
Home.
About the Creator
Bryan Hallett
As prime suspect at a murder mystery company, I spend most of my writing time dreaming up interactive murder mysteries - but every now and then, another nugget of creativity shines forth and I love to share these where possible.
