The raven with his heart of black
Vying to steal a tasty snack.
He arched above in tandem flight
Looking to land, left or right.
Till at last he landed near
Growing braver, not knowing fear.
For on the window sat a pie
With whips of steam rising to the sky.
Hopping closer, ’nothing to see’
Eaten, the pie was soon to be.
‘Oh’ thought the raven, the aroma was bliss
This sure was a treat he didn’t want to miss.
‘I have to have it’, he thought with an icy stare
For the pie was just lying there.
But as he tries to take a bite —
Something gave him a terrible fright.
He flew to the nearest tree in a bolt-line
Because someone else chose to dine.
The neighbour’s dog took the pie
(For the dog was a really selfish guy).
The dog munched, gobbled, and gnawed
‘Unfair, unfair’ the raven cawed.
He rest his beak, with a teary-eyed sigh
Realizing he wouldn’t get any pie.
