Glass Eyes

Embodied by her inner strength,

She holds herself together with poise and grace,

Showcasing her stability, while silencing her screams,

Praying for the praise, while only seeing her shame.

Her blistered facade goes unnoticed,

People buying into the good in her voice,

Never looking any further,

Never examining past the expression in her eyes.

She holds a key into her vulnerability,

Something she won't let everybody see,

Tears reserved for investment,

Where she knows they won't leave.

Her key is treasured within trust,

Shielded away from disappointment,

A place where she can let go in one's arms,

Knowing she’ll be hugged without hypocrisy.

Those select few,

See her from a different view,

They see past her superficial skin,

The smile that's detracted from her eternal anguish,

They see the truth within her lies,

The deep breaths enclosed in her distractions,

They see into her glass eyes,

To them, her vulnerability is part of the attraction.

A safe place where her inner voices don't have to be silenced,

Her worry isn't considered a weakness,

Where her cries are as seen as her smiles.

A person to whom it matters if she lives or dies,

Where to them, they see into her glass eyes.
