In the tall grass prairie
Used to roam large buffalo
Until an old farmer not by the name of Fred
Because that was his brother, named Joe instead
Wandered in and decided to build a home
The house was little compared to the spacious barn quite contrary
For raising animals he intended as opposed to marry
Sturdy built was the barn to keep his animals free from harm
An escape for the pigs from their pens and a couple sheep able to nestle in the corner stable
But it became a party when you climbed up the loft to meet the hens
As opposed to shutting and latching the door of the barn
The farmer introduced a different animal to the farm
One with teeth and claws that ran on four paws
Meant to protect the pigs and sheep and hens from predators when they awoke from their dens
The only catch was these hunters were still too young
They were only kittens under the age of one
But every time Farmer Joe climbed up the ladder he was always filled with laughter
As the kittens romped and chased the hens
Some jumping from the ledge where kitty would tumble down the ladder after
Unfortunately this way little work was ever done
Until the kittens had had their fun and fell asleep one by one
