A poem on loss

Another year,

another Father’s Day

without you here.

You helped give life to me,

made me who I am

& carved the path for who I’m meant to be.

You struggled in your time,

fighting pain and your own mind.

But you were mine,

My Father, My Dad, my Old Man.

I think about the years you haven’t seen,

and what it’d be like to hug you again.

I watch the world changing but you’re not here,

The embodiment of my worst fear,

losing someone I love.

I know you look down on me,

Smiling from above.

I carry you with me always in heart,

so even in death, we’re not truly apart.
