Fading Echoes

Thoughts of a Teenage Overdose

In the silence of night, whispers remain.

Whispers from a former life, now dying.

In the delicate shell of youth,

A soul on the brink of eternity.

In the darkness of silence, a scream.

A symphony of remorse and if onlys,

Memories flash like dying stars,

Every one a fragment of broken life.

There is the pain of dreams unrealized,

The heaviness of burdens which are unbearable,

In the fog of drunkenness, a momentary sanctuary.

However, the void persists- unbending and merciless.

For every pill ingested, a cry for oblivion.

One cry for every needle pierced.

Yet in the silence of that last moment,

Comes the cruel realization: it was never enough.

There is the pain of farewell left unspoken,

The desire for one more opportunity, of the day.

However, as the darkness approaches there is acceptance.

A breath of surrender to the inevitable.

And at the silence that follows,

There is a faint mercy.

But in death’s bosom there is liberty.

From the agony of a life cut short.
