Equilibrium
Mythical beings contemplating humanity
Absolutely meaningless, the life they lead
Bustling towards nothing, but continue to breed
Contesting the earth, polluting it too
Demanding more from it than it can do
Excess seems the theme, they live and dream
Forever wanting more, they see no extreme
Gather and pilfer, from mother earth the filler
Hedonistic until the end, seems to show the trend
Individualistic yet social, to destruction they wend
Jaunting through earth, until the bitter end
Killing the planet from all possible angles
Laughing, while the earth slowly crumbles
Meaningless existence, the earth lowly mumbles

Not entirely false, yet not complete
Objectively, they have been great, in time so fleet
Possessing minds so imaginative and upbeat
Questioning everything around, never obsolete
Regardless of the challenges, they try and beat
Struggles against progress, they break through and ingress
The food chain, and somehow to the top transgress
Ultimate predator, controllers of earth they become
Valiantly against the tide, they don’t succumb
Willing to burrow through and overcome
Xenial the earth hadn’t been for them
Yet the natural order they condemn
Zealots of survival, and menacing presence

Rain didn’t stop Mala. Swaddling for Edgar covered the baby boy’s body and she held her other son’s, Burton, six-year-old hand. The mud, muck, and mire didn’t hinder her from staying on course with her mission. From Pennsylvania, they all trekked to get closer and closer to land that was never promised but simply implied. Each step produced more mud caked around her sneakers. She didn’t care. Her rucksack provided them protein packs to put into plastic bottles and nuts and berries and dried meats to keep their muscles in good health. Water hydrated. She rested. The baby had been asleep the entire time that she had started her journey and her eldest son remained silent throughout the excursion as well.

I’m impressed by this creative approach to alphabetic poetry. I’ve never seen this done before. What a unique and intriguing piece. The elements might’ve been dark but that’s right up my ally. Bravo 👏🏼 I want to say I wish more people would do this, but then it wouldn’t be as special and impactful. Memorable is what it is. Great work!
