To My Fiancé
A whisper of warm wind
Against budding rose hips
Is nature’s eternal expression
Of your breath against my lips.
We are a moment in time,
One repeated again and again;
A horizon along the ocean,
With no beginning and no end.
You are the water to my roots,
The sun to my leaves.
Without you, my dear,
I’d be a forest without trees.
No canyon can come between us,
No glacial shift can keep us apart.
No force of Earth will ever be
Stronger than the love in my heart.
Like sandhill cranes singing in unison
And mute swans bonding for life,
You and I are inseparable,
Forever husband and wife.

Had I been paying more attention to the stories you are so fond of telling, in which you are invariably author, narrator and protagonist, I would not have been so foolish as to set you up on a blind date.
