dish & spoon

a summer sonnet for my soon-to-be wife

By Krysty-Ann BastablePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

The pollen is adrift and my lungs wheeze,

I feel hot beads of sweat crawl down my back.

You look beautiful in the humid breeze;

We catch the scent of a blooming lilac.

Out at night trying to capture the moon,

A coyote choir sings; the dog barks.

Why did the dish run away with the spoon?

Do you think, like us, they grew from a spark?

Our spark was ablaze before our first kiss,

Great things happen all at once, I have heard.

We lounge in our yard, sip beer, reminisce,

My life before you is thankfully blurred.

Whatever season, whichever weather,

I’m thankful the world stuck us together.
