Dirty Romeo

A pigeon love story as another is claimed by the cruel anti-pigeon measures.

The anti-pigeon measures claiming another victim.

We might all be outcasts, but together we are one.

I forget what I am supposed to be, I forget where I am from.

Her mind is a diamond, eyes are like stars,

We are dirt on your shoe, but that dirt is ours.

We are branded as dirty; barbaric; sick.

You disturbed our climate. You left us broken.

We have no choice, so we live alongside you.

We sleep in the cold; in the rain; in the darkness.

Let us forget them now while we build our home,

We will collect the rubbish, the sticks, the stones.

You see a bridge; I see a palace.

We mean no harm whilst you mean malice.

But when we fly, we glide above

the clouds which fade like dying stars.

It is always bright above the blanket

where your opinions perish and fall.

One day I awoke, jailed in my sanctuary.

You do not care: “They’ll die up there, thankfully.”

There is no escape, try as I might,

If only I had known that had been our last flight.

So now as we hang here like poignant art,

Like a dirty Romeo:

“Till death do us part.”
