It is rare in Vancouver to get a snow day, but on the rare occasion, it does happen. I have to laugh when I see my students excited at the little bit of snow we do generally get, a few flakes compared to winters in Toronto. I don't begrudge them their enthusiasm for trying to sled, make snowmen and snow angels.

Snow Day

Just look at the snow! Today’s a snow day!

Find the coat, the scarf, the hat. All ready!

Excited children run outside to play

Make the biggest snow fort. Oh, so steady

With friends, make snowballs and yell cheerily

Throw them hard, fast and far under the trees

Some hit their mark, take down walls. Such beauties!

Day gone, see snow flying by the window

See sleighs and snow angels amid flurries

Oh! Will it be a snow day tomorrow?

*** Poem in Dizain Form ***

P.S. Even the parrots like a good snow day.
