DEAR JERRY
An Epistolary Poem
Dear Jerry,
Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!
You were not scary.
Your audiences went wild.
Arguments weren't mild.
Never on your show!
I recall and know.
Meeting thirty years ago,
at a Dallas Texas Auto Show,
late morning, no one was exhausted.
With no crowds, our paths crossed.
You were approachable.
Recalling, the banter was sociable.
Matching your humor,
we were all Boomers.
For almost an hour,
we laughed never dour.
Not knowing each other,
didn't bother one another.
Back then, we didn't have a cell phone.
Shortly after our encounter, your show became well known.
Becoming a household name,
the world would never be the same.
Today, the news came that you were gone.
My mind plays "Taps," curtains drawn.
As you know, your shows will live on.
Rest in Peace, Jerry Springer.
Until by chance, we meet again.
Best Regards,
Babs
Writer's notes: Vocal's challenge:
"The Prompt
Write a poem in letter form. Begin with a greeting (e.g. Dear X,) and end with a closing signature (e.g. Sincerely, X).
An epistolary poem is a type of poetry written in the form of a personal letter. It is addressed to a specific person, to an imagined reader, to a general audience, or even a thing. In an epistolary poem, the poet often uses the first-person point of view to create a sense of intimacy and directness."
Thank you for reading! You are always appreciated!

My grandfather loved him. Now they both hang in heaven.
Jerry died. Wow! He was a character. RIP
This is a very nice tribute, Babs. I'm not sure that "admirable" is a word I'd use (at least for his public persona), but he certainly was interesting.
Wonderful tribute
This was cleverly written & full of charisma! It's so cool that you got to meet him. Well done Babs! Rest in Peace Mr. Springer!
I love the Jerry Springer show! It was always bonkers. Jerry had always seemed approachable and kind. With that said, I didn't know he had passed away! His brand of humor will be missed. Great tribute, Babs!
Excellent work and I still haven't watched Jerry Springer: The Opera, I will this weekend
That was very well written and I appreciate your good memory of him, I really didn't like that show.
Oh no, may he rest in peace. Loved your tribute!
Good one Babs! Thanks for sharing. 😊✨
Great tribute Babs 🥰
Wonderful tribute to the late, great Jerry Springer
He had a following. One of my friends had to watch him every day. Great job. ♥️
I knew someone would pick this topic, and I am glad that it was you. I smiled, I laughed, I told an audience I was sleeping with my mother's best friend and working as a prostitute at the same time... Ha, ha... Great work!
Wonderful job, Babs! 😍
Lovely poem in memory of an admirable man. Nice one! ❤️
Nice tribute, Babs!
I cannot believe he pass away, May he Rest In Peace. Beautiful tribute.
Can't say I ever liked the show, but this was a well-written epistolary!
