Deadly Truth

Would you repeat what you did?

Would we chop down acres of trees for our needs and greed?

If a dead lumberjack told us all that we would go through,

On the other side, for irresponsible exploitation of mother nature.

“You will be chopped for eternity just like all the trees you mercilessly put down.”

.................

Would we hunt animals for fun, skin, organs, and food?

If a dead hunter told us all that we would be put through,

On the other side, for butchering innocent, voiceless animals.

“You will be hunted and killed painfully forever for what you did.”

...................

What if we knew the deadly truth about the repercussions of our deeds?

Would we still dare to loot the earth of her precious children?

Oh, we simply don’t know and don’t care. Nobody ever did.

We are busy gathering sins, only to be surprised and shocked over there.

..................

Would we suffocate her by littering her with plastic of every form and shape?

If the dead told us about all the tales of terror to be bestowed upon us,

On the other side, for killing her and her sea children slowly with cups and straws.

“You will live through the same fate of suffocating forever in an airless space.”

.....................

Would we hurt, betray, kill, molest, rape, rob, discriminate, and deceive her children?

If the dead told us each and every dreadful and agonizing repayment

We have to inescapably endure owing to our lethargic, wicked, twisted, take-it-for-granted attitude.

“You, all of you, take care of her, our mother. We have only one, and one is enough.”
